DeLauro Looses Her Composure Over a Jest

Yesterday evening, Congress-elf, Rosa DeLauro participated in the candidate's forum, hosted by the Westfield Residents Association.  Dressed in a gaudy designer outfit and glasses that cost more than most of the attendees earn in a month, she portended to champion the "little guy".

On and on she went about how wonderful ObamaCare is.  In spite of the fact that the CDC received 300 million dollars more than they asked for in the last budget, she claimed they were underfunded.

Then, evidently alluding to the so-called "war on women", she stated forcefully, that, "No woman should have to pay more than a man for the same insurance coverage."

When the time came, a man was called on to ask a question of the candidates.  He prefaced the question (about the candidate's length of time in office) by stating that he completely agreed with the congressman; that "women should not be required to pay more for vasectomy coverage, than a man."

Of course, this brought a few chuckles from the crowd of about 120 persons.

After both candidates responded to the question, DeLauro decided to get back up and address the jest made by the questioner, and went on a non sequitur-ous tirade about comments made by some other congressman from another state!  I wish I had taken notes!  Or a video.

She promptly left the building.

James Brown, her opponent, appears in the background.

Guestblog: DeLauro Continues to Deceive & Receive

Commentary by Chris Schaefer, Connecticut

Yesterday Rosa DeLauro commented on a “new” report—
based on OLD and utterly inaccurate “statistics”—
and issued by the “social justice” organization “Social Security Works”.
DeLauro: “Today, women make just 77 cents for every dollar made by a man for equal work”
—a “statistic” which has been disproved time and time again,
ever since DeLauro first began ranting about it, for example: http://www.usnews.com/debate-club/should-the-senate-pass-the-paycheck-fairness-act/paycheck-fairness-act-is-based-on-a-misapplied-statistic .
The fact that Rosa DeLauro would continue to quote such false information
underscores her desperate willingness to use ANY deceptive means whatsoever
to support her perpetual re-election.
DeLauro: “inequality affects women of color more than any other racial background”.
Which begs the question:
Why therefore should ‘women of color’ continue to support a politician
who has been unable to improve the overall economic status of CT’s minorities,
despite serving 24 years in Congress—

DeLauro: The Magic of Obamacare

Below is a commentary on the Affordable Care Act written by Connecticut Senator Rosa DeLauro published in the Hartford Courant on 11/25. We asked hocus pocus lady Sybill Trelawney wizard from Harry Potter to weigh in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Congresswoman Rosa Delauro (RD): Ever since we passed comprehensive health insurance reform three years ago, there has been a lot of misinformation and partisan smoke surrounding the Affordable Care Act.

Sybill Trelawney (ST): POOF! Keep your eye on right hand not my left...

RD: Seniors in my district have been told that the law will negatively impact them in all kinds of ways — that they will need to apply for an “Obamacare” card to obtain their Medicare, that their benefits will be cut, or that older people will no longer get cancer care. Because these and other falsehoods have become so prevalent, I want to clear the air and dispel the myths that surround this historic and transformative law.

ST: Death panels. Ok not quite death panels exactly.. my Inner Eye says...  "Death Eaters"

RD: In fact, the Affordable Care Act includes significant benefits for Medicare and Medicare beneficiaries. Older and disabled people on Medicare enjoy these benefits without doing anything at all in the new state insurance marketplaces, such as Access Health CT, or the federal exchange at healthcare.gov. These important reforms and improvements to Medicare are already in place because of the Affordable Care Act.
First, because of the health reform law, people with Medicare can get cheaper prescription drugs, and the “donut hole” in drug coverage is closing. Already, more than 7.1 million seniors in the donut hole have saved $8.3 billion on prescription drugs. And by 2020, the donut hole will be closed for good, and older and disabled people will have saved an average of over $18,000 on prescription drugs.

ST:  Hmmmm donuts....older disabled will save $18,000 a piece you say, but who pays this cost? Abra ca dabra... Young healthy blooded muggles! Ok, we all love our grandparents, but how is this gonna work and stay solvent... I'd rather put my money on quidditch being recognized as Olympic sport..

RD: Also, before the Affordable Care Act, key life-saving preventive services, like colonoscopies and mammograms, could have co-pays as high as $160. Now, thanks to the new law, Medicare provides these services free of charge. Last year, 34.1 million Medicare beneficiaries took advantage of these now free preventive services. Medicare also now provides Annual Wellness Visits without charge, and more than 4.4 million people on Medicare have already benefited from this.

ST: If you take the train from Meriden to New Haven you can get a colonoscopy for free! Right on the train! Some nice man last week he just.. well never mind. A co-pay of $160 for a procedure that costs thousands that I may only need once a year at most...
Sorry Rosa, but nothing is “free”. SOMEBODY has to pay for all this stuff. AND that somebody is US, the taxpayers...

RD: As a cancer survivor whose ovarian cancer was caught in Stage 1 during an unrelated medical visit, I can tell you firsthand: preventive and wellness care saves lives.

ST: Yes, duh preventitive services save lives.Lemme ask you, did this cancer get caught at a non-profit clinic crowded with folks waiting inline for the common cold, or a fancy upscale private doctors office where the doctor actually had time to sit down and talk with you?

RD: The Affordable Care Act is also providing additional savings for all people with Medicare, leading to stable and lower premiums and lower deductibles. Medicare Part B premiums have either stayed or decreased over the past three years.

ST: Here comes the spell !!!! Oooh  wait you aren't going to tell us what the additional savings are?

RD: The average premium for Medicare Advantage enrollees this year is actually 10 percent lower than 2010. And the health care law works to strengthen Medicare in other ways.
It extends the solvency of the Trust Fund by nearly a decade. It improves subsidies for low-income Medicare beneficiaries. And it provides new tools to crack down on waste and fraud — to make Medicare more efficient without reducing benefits.

ST: No kidding! And DeLauro’s typical attempt to make it seem like “everybody is getting everything their hearts desire absolutely free” is one of the most egregious examples of this kind of partisan subterfuge. Here’s what Rosa doesn’t want YOU the taxpayer to know: Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security currently soak up about 44 percent of the federal budget. All three programs are growing faster than inflation, and—when joined with $1.7 trillion in new Obamacare spending—will drain about 18.5 percent of the nation’s total economic output by mid-century. This means that all other government programs—national defense, veterans’ health care, transportation, federal law enforcement, etc.—ALL will have to be financed with borrowed money.

RD: So the Affordable Care Act is already making a difference, and once it is fully implemented it will be life-changing for millions of families.

ST: CAN WE STILL GET FREE DIAPERS ROSA? DIAPERS?! Its not even fully implemented and you claim it is making a difference!I wanna J.K Rolf-up my lunch Rosa!

RD: I also want you to know about one related problem that has nothing to do with the Affordable Care Act.Some Connecticut seniors have recently learned that their private Medicare plan, UnitedHealth Care, is dropping many doctors and other health providers from its network. This shameful decision has nothing to do with the Affordable Care Act. Rather, UnitedHealth Care is putting their profits ahead of the health interests of their enrollees.

ST: Shift that blame girl! Shift it! My crystal ball says a lot more are going to be dropping doctors...I love how Rosa tries to be all Oprah like, like she is sharing a secret just with us, share on Rosa...

RD: Our entire Congressional delegation has demanded answers from UnitedHealth on this arbitrary and reckless decision, and will continue to seek out answers until the company stops being evasive.

ST: They want to make money Rosa! Just like you you 1%er!! You are one of the richest in congress! Listen, we may both dress like we are woodland knomes riding the same broom, but we are NOT alike. Its not being evasive, its being about the bottom line. What about the and you can keep your doctor razzle dazzle?

RD: As we sort out the UnitedHealth Care situation, rest assured that the Affordable Care Act is helping to ensure that Medicare provides better and less expensive coverage for older and disabled people.

ST: Better AND Less expensive? All for $19.95 you say?! That's eye of newt and wing of bat-shi* impossible!

RD: This law builds on the bedrock achievements of Medicare and Social Security to provide more security for the middle-class and a better, healthier quality of life for our entire community.

ST: Oh yeah cause Social Security isn't the biggest ponzi scheme ever invented and its going to last forever! Now who is a work of fiction now? You are preoccupied, my dear. My Inner Eye sees past your brave face to the troubled soul within. And I regret to say that your worries are not baseless. I see difficult times ahead for you, alas... most difficult... I fear the thing you dread will indeed come to pass... and perhaps sooner than you think...

RD: And it makes a number of important, long-overdue reforms that most people just take as common sense, like banning insurance companies from denying coverage or benefits to those with preexisting conditions, eliminating annual caps, mandating more transparency, and ensuring that women are not charged more than men for the same health coverage.

ST: Can I bundle with my car insurance? Oh '"transparency" now that is a catchy little phrase. No men and women are charged the same per age despite the fact that they do not give birth, they pay like they do. And so are women past menopause. And there are no incentives for not smoking or staying healthy. That's right everybody light up!

RD: The Affordable Care Act is good for Medicare and good for families. I am very proud to have fought to make it law, and I look forward to its full implementation.
DeLauro, a Democrat, represents Connecticut’s third congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.

ST: Rosa DeLauro: burying the next generation in debt. But, hey muggles! If you don’t mind having a significantly lower standard of living andhigh unemployment for decades to come, just keep voting for Rosa and her cronycohorts. By the time the SHTF, Rosa will have long since retired on broom to a tropical paradise far from the land of the working stiffs, with her massive wealth—and it will be too late for YOU to undo the mess she’ll have left behind.Ok Rosa- if its so great, why don't you enroll?
OH WAIT, Congress is exempt! Gee, thanks.

I grew up poor, Black, inner-city dwelling, and was raised by a single parent, in my case, my great grandmother. I’ve been on welfare and actually used food stamps. In short, I’m the picture that many liberals hold up when they stridently declare, “We have to do something to help these poor people!”
Here’s what I know from first-hand experience. Food Stamps, while helpful in the short term, will not lift you out of poverty, only your hard work and individual choices can do that. There is not a single government program that has ever made one person financially independent. Only you can do that for you.
The major flaw in the well-meaning government largess aimed at helping people that look like me and others who don’t, and winning the “war on poverty” is that it is killing our work ethic and sense of individual responsibility.
This nation cannot survive if the majority of the population is depending on others or the father figure government to do the achieving for them. We must dial back the entitlement mentality or our Republic will indeed be lost.

Letter to the Editor: The Obamacare Lie

Below is a letter to the editor from reader Christopher Shaefer. Shaefer's previous letter to the editor can be read here:
http://www.middletowninsider.com/2013/06/letter-to-editor-raising-taxes-id.html where he discusses his opinion that Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D) solution to everything is to raise taxes, case in point DeLauro's solution to the rising cost of tuition load rates is also to raise taxes,
The essay reflects views and opinions not necessarily shared by the Insider staff, and is published as a courtesy to readers.

Lie—and you’ll get healthcare subsidy: “for the first year of operations, we are providing [state health insurance] Exchanges with temporarily expanded discretion to accept an ‘attestation’ of projected annual household income—without further verification”…“deliberately encouraging tens of billions of dollars of waste, fraud, and abuse in order to achieve a political objective is profoundly immoral.
It’s a breach of faith with the hard-working taxpayers whose paychecks are being harnessed to a cause many of them don’t support.

Letter to the Editor: Affordable Care Act Raises Concerns

Below is a essay by Middletown Republican Town Committee chair, resident, and veteran Ken McClellan. All opinions expressed are that of the author and not necessarily that of the Insider staff.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I’ve seen reports that there is a move afoot in congress to have elected officials exempted from the provisions of the Affordable Care Act.

If this is true, I ask that my elected officials: Chris Murphy, Rosa DeLauro and Richard Blumenthal, oppose any such exemption.   Congress should be subject to the laws it sees fit to enact.   If a law would hinder or inconvenience a senator or representative, how can it be good for the country?

There should be no special provisions or plans for congresspersons to be eligible for health insurance or health care not available to us, the citizens.

I urge all of you to write to your national elected officials and ask them to abide by the laws that they enact.

Thanks,
Ken McClellan

Letter to the Editor: Department of Ed creates new six-figure job, while running of money.

Letters to the editor are published as a courtesty and do not necessarily reflective of the opinions of the Middletown Insider staff. Below is a letter to the editor from Middletown Republic Town Committee Chair Ken McClellan. Press Release from MRTC: The next meeting of the Middletown Republican Town Committee will be on Monday, March 25, at 7pm, at City Hall. Please join us.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The federal budget is a mess and President Obama has created another
high-paid, do-nothing job for a political supporter.  Mr. David Johns was
appointed as the Executive Director of the White House Initiative on
Educational Excellence for African-Americans.

How much money is this program costing, and how much impact is it having for
education of American children?

Or, was this a reward, at the expense of the taxpayer, for a former aide for
Rep. Charles Rangle of New York?  If President Obama thinks this is such an
important issue, perhaps he should fund the salary and expenses himself.

This is just one more example of how the President, the cabinet and Congress
are out of touch with reality.  We, the taxpayers, cannot continue to pay
for useless jobs and rewards for political supporters.

I am asking Senator Richard Blumenthal, Senator Chris Murphy, Representative
Rosa DeLauro and the rest of the Connecticut delegation to please stop the
wasteful spending, and stop rewarding political cronies with do-nothing
jobs.

Shut down non-essential programs like this one.

Cut back on the number of aides, advisors and assistants at ALL levels and
branches of the government.   Even if these jobs are not a 'significant'
portion of the federal budget, taking this initiative would show that
congress is serious about dealing with the budget, and show leadership in
doing so.

Ken McClellan

Taxpayer's Fund Another Vacation for a CT Bureacrat

Taxpayer's paid for U.S. Representative "Red" Rosa DeLauro of Connecticut to  attend Tuesday's service for Pope Francis's installation at the Vatican in Rome. DeLauro was part of a U.S. delegation of representatives.

Pope Francis is a native of Rep. Matt Lesser's ancestral Argentina. Pope Franis is the first pope from Latin America and the first named for the 13th-century friar St. Francis of Assisi.

DeLauro an honorary  member of the National Organization of Italian American Women and a member the group Catholic Democrats, which is a pro-choice organization that has received criticism from the Vatican. Do you think Pope Francis and Red Rosa will share gelato together?

Italy is no New Adventure for DeLauro: Rep. DeLauro received criticism after her vacation to Italy in the wake of Hurricane Irene. Read the article here: http://dennishouse.wordpress.com/2011/09/02/ct-gop-delauro-should-choose-permanent-vacation/
At the time CT GOP Chair Jerry Labriola had this to say to reporters from Ct Capital Report:
“This is a perfect example of how out of touch Congresswoman Delauro is with the residents of her district and the needs of our state.  The Congresswoman should never have been abroad to begin with, rather in the district or at work addressing the ongoing unemployment crisis. On the other hand, given her continued endorsement of President Obama’s failed economic policies, perhaps our state would be better served if Delauro chose to take a permanent vacation”

No word on if Rep. Matt Lesser was packed in her suitcase for the journey. We tried to reach Mayor Dan Drew, who in the past gone on tax payer funded jaunts around the world, but he had already left early for the day (as routine) to watch his children. Per standard procedure, Chief of Staff Joseph Samolis dropped him off, returned the mayor mobile to it's spot outside City Hall.

Rome is a lovely 60 degrees in March.

Wayne Winsley: Why Does Government Want to Disarm You While Arming Itself?

Below is a repost  with permission of a opinion piece by conservative blogger Wayne Winsley and former senatorial candidate against Rep. Rosa Delauro in 2012. All opinions expressed are soley that of the author Winsley and are reposted as a courtesy to our reader. Check out the original post and more about Winsley here:
http://waynewinsley.blogspot.com/2013/02/why-does-government-want-to-disarm-you.html

In recent months we have seen proposed gun control legislation that seeks to do everything from banning certain types of weapons, limiting magazine sizes, to even taxing the bullets themselves.
Meanwhile, our government is literally buying bullets like they are going out of style.

The Department of Homeland Security is set to purchase a further 21.6 million rounds of ammunition to add to the 1.6 billion bullets it has already obtained over the course of the last 10 months alone
To put that in perspective, during the height of active battle operations in Iraq, US soldiers used 5.5 million rounds of ammunition a month. Extrapolating the figures, the DHS has purchased enough bullets over the last 10 months to wage a full scale war for almost 30 years.

This is not a conspiracy theory or even a pro-second amendment statement. I am simply posing a question that even the most ardent gun control supporter should be asking.
Why?
If your next door neighbor went to the local store and purchased 200 rounds of ammunition, many of you would be very concerned and want to know, “What on earth do they need that much firepower for, what are they planning to do?”

Well…your civilian government is stockpiling ammo at a faster rate than the military and at the same time seeking to restrict civilian access to firearms and even ammunition.
You might want to ask, Why, exactly, is the DHS stockpiling massive amounts of ammo?
This post cites and reprints information taken from the sources linked below.

MRTC Vice Chairman William Wilson's Comment on Today's Pro- Drew Article in the Middletown Press.

Originally Published in The Middletown Mess.

Why wasn't there a report from China? You go there to represent the city but, what happened while you were there? We have a spending report that I had to FOI "by the way", but it leaves out things such as: What  you did while in China, and what else did you have to spend money on besides travel and hotels?

Did you eat while you were there or did someone else pay for your food? Simple things that should be answered. It was the taxpayers who footed this bill.

William Wilson,
MRTC Vice Chair

Editor's note: It is looking like taxpayers footed the bill for Mayor Dan Drew to go to the Presidential Inauguration and "represent Middletown" by standing in a crowd of a few million people as well.

Mudslinging Drew Condemns Suzio, Ignores Presence of Lesser & Bartolomeo

Mayor Drew and Mayor Rohde sling mud campaigning on the taxpayer's dime during work hours.
Today Democratic Meriden Mayor Michael Rohde, Middletown Mayor Dan Drew, and Candidate & Town Councilwoman for Meriden Dante Bartolomeo held a joint press conference  to denounce state Sen. Len Suzio's campaign for re-election to the 13th District state senate seat as "dirty."
Rohde went on record at the press conference to accuse the Suzio campaign of using push polls as a campaign technique, but admitted he had no proof to tie the calls to the Suzio campaign. Suzio stated the calls did not come from his campaign and he does not condone such calls. Rohde asked Suzio to in some way make it stop, however had no suggestions as to where the calls originated from. Mayor Drew joined in in the false accusations.
It seems Drew has taken to slinging mud  along side candidates even when he himself is not up for election, all at the expense of tax payers who pay his salary. Why Drew has so much time on his hands to campaign for others during the work day, when he should be devoting it to his job, is unclear. While speaking to residents last night at the Westfield Residents Association's candidate forum, Drew ,who was asked to explain upcoming referendum items only, managed to name drop & thank Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro (D) 3x during his explanation of the Mattabasset Sewer district referendum.

At 1:30 pm today Drew and Governor Malloy will campaign with DeLauro during an appearance at a re-dedication ceremony for the Arrigoni Bridge in Portland. This was not announced until this morning, and only state Democrats were invited.

Bartolomeo issued a campaign press release stating the conference was a joint effort (text copied below).  At the press conference today, Drew made no mention of the fact that Lesser was caught on video at the $1.84 a gallon gas rally held by American's for Prosperity last week. The State Democratic Committee chair filed a complaint against Suzio for alleged vote buying with the State Elections Enforcement Commission. Suzio's challenger for the 13th District Dante Bartolomeo gave a video interview to the New Haven Register at the gas event as well, yet was not named in the complaint.

"Strive for Excellence": The Wayne Winsley Story

On the evening of Sunday, October 14, 2012, the First Presbyterian Church of New Haven hosted a 3rd district candidates forum with incumbent Representative, Rosa DeLauro (D) and her challenger, Wayne Winsley (R). Each candidate was allotted an hour to introduce themselves and take questions from the 40-45 people attending. DeLauro went first. Neither candidate was allowed in the room when the other was speaking. It wasn't a debate, although both were asked one identical question. Video cameras were forbidden from the church property, so only an audio recording was obtained.

Your Daily Spin from the Middletown Mess: Liar Liar Pants on Fire

Earlier in the week the Middletown Mess (aka Press) published a piece about Fire Opps 101, a class by the MFD to demonstrate to City officials what goes into their daily routine of fire rescue. While there is no doubt these men and women are heroes, instead of show casing them, the Mess took it as an opportunity to sell out to the Democratic propaganda machine and over emphasize the role of their buddy Democrats.
The article was written by Middletown Democratic Town Committee pal Mess editor Viktoria Sundqvist. Other City officials attended and participated in all four demonstrations offered, including Republican Coucilwoman and Candidate for State Rep for the 100th Deborah Kleckowski and Incumbent Candidate for State Senate Len Suzio, however, only Councilman Phil Pessina (R), Mayoral Aide (or Grant Chief of Staff as he unilaterally changed his title to), Joseph Samolis, and Mayor Drew were mentioned repeatedly in Sundqvist's article. As a sitting Councilman, Drew chose not to attend and to instead campaign, but as Mayor he made sure he came for the photo opt published by Sundqvist.
Sundqvist's article goes on to describe the heat of the fire, the color, the smoke, in trite analogies, with ridiculous verbiage by Drew. Despite the chaos she describes she manages, in full gear, to quote Drew in the article, she writes:
"Drew said two firefighters were added into the budget for the 2011-12 year when he was on the Common Council, and as mayor, he added another two for the 2012-13 year. He has also been in contact with
Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro’s office about applying for a SAFER grant, which would allow the department to pay for more officers for a limited period of time. “My administration is making a concerted effort to increase the staffing in both the fire and police department,” Drew said.  “We have
a responsibility for the public’s safety.” "

Here Drew blatantly tries to take credit for work of the past administration, which he criticized and ultimately then voted against!
Last year,  Councilwoman Deborah Kleckowski, Personnel Director Debra Milardo, Councilman Bob Santangelo, Hillary Federico from the Press, Representative Matt Lesser (wearing a Malloy t-shirt, again always campaigning & making himself the focus) and Mayor Sebastian Giuliano  participated in Fire Ops 101. Drew did not participant though eligible as a councilman (we get to why below). Participants past and present performed four tasks while wearing full gear:
1. Break down a door using special equipment, then crawl up a smoke filled, dark stairwell to search for and recover a "victim". Participants  had to drag the victim (a 200 lb. dummy) to safety.
2. Fire attack and knockdown. City officials dragged a charged fire hose into a dark, smoke filled - and burning - structure.
3. Participants were instructed to carry a chainsaw up a ladder to the roof of a burning structure and cut a hole in it to ventilate and release the heat.
4. Cut up a Ford Taurus using the Hurst tool (the "Jaws of Life").
Although  no doubt hyper-ventilating, as anyone in 700 degree heat would, Drew remembers to name-drop for DeLauro, who was not on  hand. Although the Insider does not support nor pretend to endorse the subsequent claim, Insider has observed that rumors circulating on various websites run by conservative critics and bloggers suspect her rumored "declining health" for her absence on the campaign trail and as a reason for her failure to debate opponent Wayne Winsley. A Patch contributor, Middletown resident Bill Boyd comments on DeLauro's lack of response to Winsley a letter here: When questioned about debating Winsley DeLauro appears very confused- see the video from blogger Palin Smith here:
Mayor Drew, who never fails in these articles, especially those written by pal Viktoria Sundqvist to brag about himself did in fact apply for a SAFER grant just like every administration before him did as well however; there is a catch to the grant. This grant is all well and good as long as Middletown then commits to the higher staffing levels after the grant expire as is mandated in the rules for application of the SAFER grant. If it is in the budget,  necessary and affordable, then by all means increase Fire and Police staffing, but this is a decision for tax payers. Once again the Drew has put the cart before the horse and committed City money - your tax dollars- before its even in the bank!  Ironically, when the previous administration and Republican's on Common Council advocated to increase staffing at the Fire Departments, Democrats criticized it.
Like this year, last year was no different: Middletown Fire Department invited the entire Common Council to participate; only Kleckowski and Santangelo took them up on it.
At the time of last year's Fire Ops class, Drew was running for mayor, but couldn't tear himself away from his campaign to do it - (kind of sounds like a certain President of the U.S. who couldn't fore-go a Las Vegas fundraiser in the face of a terrorist attack on our consulate in Lybia. If you remember, Dan Drew couldn't find time to help out at the shelter during either of the two weather events that took place last year.)
Well, Drew did show up at the  Emergency Shelter at the High School on Halloween night 2011 for about 10 minutes to hand out candy, at 8 pm at night to children who we were trying to get to calm down. Thanks a bunch, Dan; you're such a help! Thanks for making a mockery of our heroic Fire Department and using this as an opportunity to campaign for Delauro & yourself rather than showcase the real heroes.

Guest Blog: DeLauro Complicates FDA Regs, Panders for Votes

 Guest Blog: By Christopher Shaefer
All guest blogs/letters are published as a courtesy, and do not necessarily represent the views of the Insider Editors. These post are opinion pieces, and burden of proof falls on the author.
Rosa DeLauro: pandering for votes as elections draw near with her predictable knee-jerk call for new laws, in response to the meningitis crisis.
Compounding of drugs always has been recognized as being most appropriately regulated by the triad of doctor, patient and pharmacist, with pharmacist practice overseen by the state. FDA regulation of drug products is not practical for regulation of compounding practice which, by definition, is the creation of a specialized product for a patient with a specific need.
The need for a particular product cannot be anticipated far enough in advance to pass through traditional FDA regulation. It also is not economically feasible to fund studies of drug products used for such a small number of patients. Patient autonomy and access to customized medications are additional justifications for limited FDA regulation of compounded products. Some patients’ needs are unique and thus do not provide financial justification for the expenditures necessary for FDA approval. Those unique patient needs CAN be met, however, through compounding or off-label prescribing. But strict regulation would severely hinder patient access and creating “a single entity responsible for verifying appropriate marketing and safe drug production” as called for by DeLauro would be impractical and—as one would expect from any DeLauro proposal—both prohibitively expensive and redundant.
Thus compounding is a professional practice most appropriately regulated at the state and professional level. Doctors and pharmacists are licensed by state regulatory bodies and must follow state regulations in order to maintain licensure and good standing. These regulatory authorities can discipline at a professional level or at a criminal level based on the type of violation at issue. These professionals are also guided by professional organizations such as the American Medical Association and the American Pharmacists Association.

DeLauro Must Stop Dodging

For Immediate Release

DeLauro Must Stop Dodging
NAUGATUCK, CONN – September 18: Wayne Winsley, committed to effectively represent all the people of Connecticut’s 3rd U.S. Congressional District and to restore the Public Trust, today released the following statement:

“Incumbent Congresswoman Rosa DeLauro, in a recent statement caught on videotape says she, “hasn’t heard from Wayne.” regarding any candidate forums or debates.  That is not accurate.

The truth is we have invited incumbent DeLauro to several open forums held throughout the 3rd Congressional District.  Our campaign Media Releases are sent directly to the DeLauro campaign.  But, there is more.  For example:

Prior to the public forum held on August 9th at the East Haven Senior Center, on August 8th, an enterprising media professional took the initiative to contact the DeLauro campaign and published the following statement that the  incumbent “Congresswoman DeLauro’s staff says she will not be attending this candidate forum”.  Obviously, the DeLauro campaign has been aware of the forums.  Equally obvious, either Ms. DeLauro is out of touch with her staff - as increasingly is the case with citizens in the 3rd CD – or disorganization is the case at the campaign’s HQ.

It is time for incumbent DeLauro to stop dodging and join me with the citizens of the 3rd CD in public forums.

The people deserve the opportunity to hold incumbent DeLauro accountable for her two decades in office and to hold Wayne Winsley accountable for what he commits to do as their next U.S. Congressional Representative.

To speak directly with Wayne Winsley, schedule a media interview, or to schedule a visit with your group, organization or association, contact him directly by phone at860-248-0324 or via email wayne@winsleyforcongress.org .

Guest Video: "What We have here is a failure to Communicate"

Video by Palin Smith, who describes himself as "a videographer of the tea party movement in Connecticut. He is always ready to capture the image of a politician, a train wreck or a plague, but that's being redundant!"

Video tag by Smith: Last week, in New Haven, Representative Rosa DeLauro (3rd District) a 22-year incumbent Democrat was asked if she planned to debate her Republican challenger, Wayne Winsley. Listen for yourself to her reply and then listen to Wayne Winsley from two weeks ago. Is it a case of "what we got here is failure to communicate", or is this a case of ignorance by design?

Part of the 3rd District covers Middletown.

DeLauro Factor by Wayne Winsley

Wayne Winsley, committed to represent all the people of Connecticut’s 3rd U.S. Congressional District, today released the following statement.
 http://winsley2012.com/

“Between 2008 and 2011, while so many of our fellow citizens were losing jobs and family incomes were shrinking, the personal wealth of Incumbent DeLauro ballooned from about 5 million dollars to over 17 million.”
“That’s a financial growth factor of more than 3X. Such a ‘DeLauro factor’ is clear.
This ‘DeLauro factor’ suggests that this incumbent has been working only on monetary success for herself and her family - instead of appropriately focusing her work on behalf of all the people. Consider the following:
  • Imagine… if - instead - Incumbent DeLauro had worked… to grow Working Family incomes by that factor of 3X?
  • Imagine… if - instead - Incumbent DeLauro had worked… to grow private businesses by that factor of 3X?
  • Imagine… if - instead - Incumbent DeLauro had worked… to grow new jobs by that factor of 3X?
  • Imagine… if - Incumbent DeLauro, who has been in the job for 22 years had truly worked… for all the people?
Regrettably, wishful imagination is not the reality.  The ‘DeLauro factor’ facts tell us the disturbing truth.
Again,
  • DeLauro family income ballooned by a factor of 3X; while working families lost more than $3,000 of income.
  • Meanwhile, across Connecticut, more than 163,000 citizens search for work having been cast adrift on the sea of unemployment by DeLauro, her disciples in the Congressional Delegation and the State Government majority.
The bottom line:
Incumbent DeLauro isn’t working for the people… because Incumbent ‘DeLauro… hasn’t worked… for all the people.
For many more people to get - and keep - jobs, it’s time for Incumbent DeLauro to lose hers.  It’s time to let her go.”
My Pledge
“I, Wayne Winsley, will serve the citizens of the Third Congressional District with forthrightness, honor, and integrity. As your representative in the congress, every citizen can count on me to work tirelessly to get government out of the way of business and individual entrepreneurs so that every private enterprise can grow, create more jobs, and hire more people.”

Drew To Take 3rd Trip of Year

Drew scheduled to take his third trip in less than a year in office! Will this one also be funded by you? The Insider was the first to break the news of Mayor Dan Drew's secret trip to  $5,000 China on our dime. The mayor has yet to provide a line item expense report or trip itinerary of this trip to the public and any indication of just how it served the greater good. We also informed readers when last spring Drew spent $1,000 of public monies to  meet with CT Representatives Rosa DeLaura and Richard Blumenthal in Washington D.C. to "fast track" the City's acquisition of  property on Mile Lane, called a "surplus federal property." This project had long been a done deal, and the trip really wasn't necessary. Unfortunately the Mayor had not heard of the recent invention of the conference call. This trip was funded by taxpayers. Drew makes frequent trips to Hartford to lobby alongside Councilman Berch, as reported by the Middletown Press. September 4th Dan Drew will join bff Rep. Matt Lesser at the Democratic National Convention in North Carolina to present the Connecticut Democrat's nomination for president. Whether he is in Hartford lobbying, campaigning with Rosa Delauro or Joe Serra, palling around with Big Dan, or shooting the breeze with Matt Lesser, one thing is for sure- Dano isn't at City Hall, let alone most times even within city limits.  Is he ever here? Where is Dano going next?

As seen on Patch: Our Children Deserve more than a Food stamp Future

An essay reposted from Middletown Patch blog as seen here
Candidate Wayne Winsley will hold a meet and greet at  Saturday August 18th10:00am till Noon At Michael’s Gourmet Deli 83 Broad Street Middletown, CT 06457 Meet the future Congressman for CT’s 3rd District.
In his own words Winsley writes:
Incumbent DeLauro often repeats the phrase, “One in seven families in the third district are food challenged, which means they are often unsure where their next meal is coming from.”
Her answer to this dilemma after having over two decades to work on it is to offer more food stamps.
My solution is to create an environment where small and medium-sized businesses can grow in Connecticut and where more large businesses want to move into and not out of Connecticut so that more citizens can get off the dole and onto a full-time payroll. Then they can buy their own food and everything else they need want and desire.
As someone who has used the safety net personally, including food stamps, I can tell from first-hand knowledge that while the safety is good and necessary to help those in need of help, there is not a single government program that has ever made a single person financially independent or entirely self-sufficient.
Our children can see this and even they have figured out that, “while the government can help you get by, you have to do something else if you want to rise up.”
Our children deserve the opportunity to rise up and embrace the promise of America.
Our children deserve more than the dead-end career paths of the social welfare system of the criminal justice system.
I will work hard to change the current attitude in Washington and in Hartford that talks about loving jobs while showing hate for job creators.
Incumbent DeLauro, after more than two decades of ineffective occupation of the people’s seat in the third district, continues to offer nothing but empty rhetoric about free diapers a promise of more food stamps.
My vision is to help more of our citizens from food stamps to full-time jobs.
My goal is a strong America rebuilt on independence and productivity.
I believe our children deserve more than a food stamp future.
As your next representative, I - Wayne Winsley - will work hard to serve the citizens of the Third Congressional with forthrightness, honor, and integrity.

Your Daily Spin from the Middletown Mess!

http://www.middletownpress.com/articles/2012/07/13/news/doc50009aff73c07837963433.txt

Middletown Insider graphic inspired by Delauro own words
as quoted in a NY Times article,  Oct. 11 2005
Your Daily Spin from the Middletown Mess is becoming a regular feature of the Insider! Take a moment to read the above article from the Middletown Mess. Since candidates vying for State Representative offices around CT declared their candidacy in May, Rep. Rosa Delauro has had 6 separate articles written in the Mess of her paling around our fair City with Mayor Dan Drew. These fluff pieces have been written under the guise of visiting local businesses, seeing plays, a Womens' Health Conference at a local congregation ( where she was the ONLY politician invited to speak mind you), and a visit to NEAT's Farmer's Market. All of these "outing" are written from the view point that this was a spontaneous encounter, not a crafted part of the campaign process. All politicians campaign- Candidate Linda McMahon visited Middletown less than two weeks ago and visited local businesses on Main Street, yet no fan fare from the Mess or other media outlets- outside of it being mentioned on her own website occurred. The Insider does pretend to be privy to the inner workings of the McMahon campaign on whether the lack of coverage was planned or not, but we at the Insider have repeatedly noticed the  predisposition of the Middletown Press to always cover when a Democratic Candidate goes to a public function, or more obvious releases a press release; and rarely if ever cover when an Independent, Green, or Republican does the same or even something more attention worthy.  While the most recent article touts NEAT's wonderful outreach program, which we too at the Insider applaud and think is wonderful, it is clear from the author's word that the focus of the article is mainly on getting quotes from the politicians. The article would have been much better if the visit from the politicians was not included and focused more on the NEAT's program.
