From Sen. Chris Murphy: No More Assault Weapons

This e-mail came from  CT Senator Chris Murphy and ended up in the Insider's mailbox.

From: Chris Murphy

Subject: Today's announcement

Reply-To: Chris@chrismurphy.com

When I emailed you 13 days ago, I said that there had been 130 school shootings since assault weapons were used to murder 13 people at Columbine High School in 1999.With the tragic gun violence just two days ago at Lone Star College in Texas, that number is now sadly 131.

It’s been 41 days since an assault weapon was used to take 26 innocent lives at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown, Connecticut. When will we finally say that enough is enoughAssault weapons are designed to kill people—period. They don’t belong on our streets. They don’t belong at our malls or our churches, on our college campuses, or in the halls of our elementary schools.

Maybe now is finally the time.

There are voices rising up in Newtown and in cities and towns across America, coming together to demand immediate action to ban assault weapons. We can’t wait – we can’t stand idly by while one more innocent life is lost.

That’s why today, I joined my colleagues, Senators Dianne Feinstein, Chuck Schumer, and Richard Blumenthal, and Representatives Carolyn McCarthy, Ed Perlmutter, and Elizabeth Esty to introduce a new ban on military-style assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines.

Now, make no mistake. The opponents of sensible gun control are gearing up for a nationwide fight, and they’ll stop at nothing to flood our communities with even more guns.

Add your name to our petition at NoMoreAssaultWeapons.com to join voices all across the country in our call for the House and Senate to pass the Assault Weapons Ban of 2013 immediately.

I hope you’ll join us.
Every best wish,

Chris

  3. Chris Murphy I see you have started using Senator Blumenthal's tactic of going in front of the camera and spouting off misnomers on how these new laws would have stopped what happen in Newtown, CT at Sandy Hook Elementary. I am tired of politicians making accusations that have no bases in the truth.

I am very upset what happened to those twenty children and six educators as anyone else is. My prayers are with their families for comfort and healing.

I would like to see you work on the Mental Health aspects and school safety. Those are two things that would have made a difference in this killing at Sandy Hook.

Limiting our Second Amendment is not the way to go in my opinion and many others though out Connecticut and the Nation.

  4. Murphy's Law: Comment on things that obvious and hope that the masses jump on the bandwagon.. (I.e. I am against people killing people; I am for air; I am against bad bridges etc.) FIne, but where are the solutions?
