Former councilman David Bauer, one of the most active and dedicated persons to ever serve on the Common Council, failed to win reelection.  During his four terms in office, Bower served on the Finance and Government Operations Commission, the Public Works Commission (which conducted the first study in years of city parks, trails and open spaces), Water Polliution Control Authority (where he and councilman Hope Kasper worked to promote water and sewer options for the Middle Street area), the Mattabassett District Board and several other committees.

Outside of his council duties, David hosts a radio show Mondays on WESU featuring matters of public interest that affect greater Middletown.  He also hosts a show on Comcast Cable Television Channel 15.  He is an amateur photographer and has shown his photographs at the Buttonwood Tree.
On behalf of the Mayor and the Council, Councilmen Thomas J. Serra and Sebastian
Giuliano presented Bauer with the following resolution:
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIDDLETOWN: That we thank David Bauer for his years of service to the City of Middletown. Middletown continues to grow because of the decisions and leadership shown by David during his term in office. He worked for Middletown and its financial, cultural, and economic health and he will be remembered for keeping Middletown citizens as his focus for the votes he has made on the Council floor; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED: That we wish David good health and best wishes for all his future endeavors. We hope he continues with his passion for photography and keeps his voice heard in Middletown.

After serving four terms on the Common Council, Hope Kasper also failed to win reelection.  Kasper, during her 8 years of service, sat on the Finance and Government Operations Commission, the Retirement Board and the Public Safety Commission.  She also served on the Personnel Review Committee, the Water Pollution Control Authority, the Economic Development Commission and on the Ordinance Study Commission.
On behalf of the Mayor and the Council, Councilmen Thomas J. Serra and Deborah Kleckowski presented Kasper with the following resolution;

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COMMON COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF MIDDLETOWN: That we thank Hope P. Kasper for her eight years of service on the Common Council. Through personal challenges, she has kept the City’s and the taxpayers’ needs in the forefront of her assessments and decisions made while on the Council; and

BE IT FUTHER RESOLVED: That we wish Hope good health and happiness in all her future endeavors. She is a role model for other citizens to become involved and lend their voices to the decisions facing their community.

With a ten win and one loss season, the Middletown Tigers defeated New Britain in a stunning 50 to 19 win, clinching the Colonial Conference title.  They went on to face East Hartford, winning the Connecticut American Youth Football Championship with a score of 58 to 48.
The team is lead by Head Coach Phil Nanfito and Coaches Bob Spadaro, Carlos Ruiz, Jr., and Jay Nanfito.  Their focus on teamwork and sportsmanship helped lead the team to the Conference championship.
