Senator Dante Bartolomeo Has "Lapse of Memory" at Candidate Forum

Wayne Winsley, 2012
Congressional Candidate
Last night, at a Candidate's Forum held at the Westfield Resident's Association annual meeting, Sen. Bartolomeo denied having said in a press release from February 13, 2013, that she had called for mandatory psychiatric evaluations for ALL students in early 2012.

She demanded the questioner "prove it"; cocksure that he wouldn't have a twenty one month old press release in his pocket.  Which he didn't.

Well, last year I wrote an open letter to the senator, in which I cited, verbatim, a portion of her press release; "Students should be able to receive mental health evaluations/treatment, and districts need some recourse if parents and students refuse to participate."

It seems pretty clear, that the threat of recourse against parents and students, removes any semblance of a voluntary evaluation.

(See my full post, here;http://www.middletowninsider.com/2013/06/letter-to-editor-open-letter-to-sen.html)

Former congressional candidate, author and patriot, Wayne Winsley, also wrote an article on the subject, in which he cites the entire statute that would make these mandatory evaluations a reality; Proposed Bill No. 374; AN ACT REQUIRING BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ASSESSMENTS FOR CHILDREN and addresses the issue better than I did.

In Wayne’s article, he says, The proposal is Dangerous, because the government has now created a small, “big brother” that will follow my child around for the rest of her days.”

Read Wayne's full article, here;http://waynewinsley.blogspot.com/2013/02/your-kid-gets-checkup-from-neck-up-need.html.  http://www.cga.ct.gov/2013/TOB/S/2013SB-00374-R00-SB.htm

Senator Dante Bartolomeo is a dangerous person; an advocate for big government intrusion into the personal, private lives of children and families.  She is also a liar. She must be voted out of office.

  1. If your "quote" is correct Bill you have proved that you and the questioner are wrong, and Bartolomeo did not "call for mandatory psychiatric evaluations for ALL students". Students being able to access mental health treatment is far different from mandatory evaluations for ALL students.

  2. Read carefully, Matt; ". . . and districts need some RECOURSE if parents and students refuse to participate." The operative word is "recourse". Then, read Winsley's post, where he cites the entire bill in question, entitled; . . . "AN ACT REQUIRING BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ASSESSMENTS FOR CHILDREN." The bill came forward in January, her press release in February.

  3. Read carefully Bill. Nothing from Bartolomeo saying mandatory evaluations for all children.

  4. Bill not sure what a "laps" is.

  5. "lapse"
    To allow to lapse.
    n.
    1. The act or an instance of lapsing, as:
    a. A usually minor or temporary failure; a slip: a lapse of memory; a lapse in judgment.
    b. A deterioration or decline: a lapse into barbarism.
    c. A moral fall: a lapse from grace.

  6. Now you are mincing words, Matt.

Recourse: 1. the act of resorting to a person, course of action, etc, in difficulty or danger (esp in the phrase "have recourse to")

In other words, a means by which to coerce students into complying; "districts need some recourse (course of action, (to force participation)) if parents and students refuse to participate." Doesn't sound voluntary, to me.

Maybe you have a different idea as to what "districts need some recourse if parents and students refuse to participate", means? Please explain.

    Require (ing): vb

    2. to impose as a necessity; make necessary: this work requires precision.
    3. (also intr) to make formal request (for); insist upon or demand, esp as an obligation
    4. to call upon or oblige (a person) authoritatively; order or command: to require someone to account for his actions.

That does not sound "voluntary" to me, either.

Perhaps you are using the Orwellian New-Speak dictionary.

  7. Not mincing words Bill, just rational thought. Try it sometime.

  8. Nice try Billy. You can obfuscate as much as you like, but her press release did not support MANDATORY evaluations for ALL children. Should their be mandatory evaluations for people like Adam Lanza? Damn right.
She simply didn't say what you claim she said, so there was no "laps". Nice try with the definition of lapse after fixing your typo, though.

  9. Typo; what typo? I didn't fix no stinkin' typo; "prove it". And I suppose YOU have a copy of her press release; if so, scan it and post it.

Please explain what, "districts need some recourse if parents and students refuse to participate", actually means.

Did she, or did she not, endorse Proposed Bill No. 374; AN ACT REQUIRING BEHAVIORAL HEALTH ASSESSMENTS FOR CHILDREN? If not, what was it she was alluding to in her PR?
