Should City Spend $750,000 to light the Arrigoni Bridge?

Mayor Drew is proposing that the City purchase LED lights to light the Arrigoni Bridge with Portland. for the purpose of attracting tourism to the area. The City can spend a maximum of $750,000 without such a purchase going to referendum. The idea was explored by the previous administration, at the time the proposed plan proved to costly and Portland officials did not want to split the cost.

Mayor Dan Drew has shared the above two images on his facebook page of what lighting may look like (rendering credit not given).

  1. Middletown shouldn't stick one cent into the bridge. We have many areas in town that kind of money can be spent to upgrade.

  2. Those pictures don't even look like LEDs. What buddy has Drew lined up to give this job to like the solar panels at Remington Rand going to Greenskies and not out to bid? He pitched one to Landino and the liberals don't. say a word! Good bye competitive bidding Middletown!

  3. If Portland doesn't want to split the cost, Middletown will consider lighting just their side of the bridge. That's about what the $750,000 will get them anyway.

  4. It's not Middletown's bridge, but the state of Connecticut's bridge. So no we shouldn't be paying any money to light the bridge.

  5. Hell No. Drew has lost his egotistic mind if he does this. Waste of money!

  6. More lipstick on the pig...Drew is the typical Dem spending faster than he can confiscate then turning on the smoke and mirrors show pretending to save money at City Hall.

  7. What a joke and waste of money! Middletown needs a serious administration that needs to build the financial future of this city with the best interest of its citizens in mind. Not their own image and legacy!

  11. I think its a horrible idea. The ROI isn't there. How about using that money to fix up some of our parks?

From what I've read, and heard, no one but Dan thinks this is a good idea, even the CT DOT laughs at him about it.

  14. Why is the City paying John Hall? What are his qualifications to be Energy Coordinator for the City? What other major cities has he worked for? He is head of the non profit tax dodging Jonah Center and a "consulting" firm in Portland and is an X-clergy - but what makes him worthy of tax dollars??? What anyone else interviewed for this position or consulting crony job?

  15. John Hall, City Hall?

John Hall,a Portland resident, has been trying to grow himself a city hall job for years. Between the the bridge and now the street lights, I think he has succeeded.

Congrats John, will you be hiring a certain David M. as your assistant as the unforeseen duties multiply?

  16. FYI John Hall was brought on by the City as part of a consulting arrangement through Honeywell. One should ask if Honeywell continues to fully fund the position or has it morphed into a city job? If it morphed into that City job then the position needed to be advertised and competitively tested for. If the latter is true then where the hell is the Personnel Office and the Teamsters Union????
