Legend Elton John Writes Tribute Song to Former GOP Councilmen

In light of the recent events surrounding the decision on part of the Middletown Republican Town Committee not to endorse two incumbent Councilmen for reelection, legendary singer song writer Elton John stopped by the Insider and wrote a special tribute to the councilmen. The Grammy winner stated this was a new original piece, but it feels like we have heard this melody somewhere before.
---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Goodbye Phil and Joe

Goodbye Phil and Joe
Though yous should have left long ago
Yous retired as cops, then gave it another shot
Always playing  nice guys who got the top slots
But in your eyes, the GOP tried to bring you down
So yous started on the bipartisan path
And they made you change your dream

And it seems to us, yous lived your lives
Playing ‘yesmen’ in the end
Never knowing who to listen to
When the facts came in
And we would have liked to have understood your logic
But we never will know
Why your party loyalty burned out long before
Your council term ever did

Goodbye Phil and Joe
The GOP created a super slate, but teamwork was the price you paid
When you sold out for pats on the head
Oh but how the Dem’s still betrayed you
And the committee  had to say
Was that Joe and Phil were gone for good
At the end of the day

And it seems to us yous lived your lives
Playing ‘yesmen’ in the end
Never knowing who to listen to
When the facts came in
And we would have liked to have seen your logic
But we never will know
Because your sense of teamwork took a dive right before
Your cooperation ultimately did

Goodbye Phil and Joe
The China trip was all a a freakin’ sham
You praised the boy mayor
And said no problem!  five grand for dim sam
"It's a good way spend taxpayer public monies"
“It’s for the lil’ children excuses” have echoed on long before
The recovery of your lost conservative values ever will

Goodbye Phil and Joe
Baggin your fellow officials to the press is a no no
Claiming only yous twos cares about people is far from true
Bipartisanship is about compromise not giving in
Praising poor judgement, Dannyboy Drew’s lying ways
Having  secret chitty chats with Tommy, always being a no show
Makes people who put yous in office ‘touchy’ at the end of the day

And it seems to us yous lived your lives
Playing ‘yesmen’ in the end
Never knowing it’s your own people are who to listen to
When the facts come in
And we would have liked to have heard that voice in them heads of yours
But we never will know
How your concern for wasteful spending went down the pipes before
Your tenure as minority Grand Poobahas kinda did

Goodbye Phil and Joe
You let the "girls" write a decent budget
Then bagged the proposal on the floor
You endorsed Matty Lesser 'n' hiked up taxes
Joining departments creates more waste 'n' doesn’t add up
Them "girls" always had more balls then yous before
The GOP got it together taking the axes like they did

Goodbye Phil and Joe
From the local GOP
Stop listening to your faulty consciences,
Maybe the D’s will pick yous up
And let yous play with them
Course that’s hard to say how far you’ll go
To please Zippy and Ol’ Godfather Joe

And it seems to us, yous lived your lives
Playing ‘yesmen’ in the end
Always listening to your misguided consciences
Even when the facts came in

And we would have liked to have understood your logic
But we never will
Your apprehension to grasp reality came out to stay long before
Your realization that the end is here ever will

  1. Insiders: You all are freaking hilarious! To Joe, and Phil. karma, ain't that a bitch!. Wow. It's so ironic how you betrayed so many people for having there own thoughts and mind. Now that you been dumped, and dumped hard, you say it's because you did? Things are getting interesting. Drew may have two more years, but that's it. He is done, just like Malloy after this next term. Can't wait to see the spankings the GOP hands out over the next two years!

  3. I've been waiting all day to see what would be posted in the Insider regarding the endorsed Republican ticket and was not disappointed. Someone is a genius. Now I can't wait to see what comes after the Dems announce their ticket.

  4. The more appropriate Elton John song would be "Funeral for Friend" from Goodbye Yellow Brick Road but that has no vocal. Why can't Ryan Kennedy run as mayor? He is a smart young guy. Or run Driska Russo? Is she a good old boy?

  5. OK, the fun has been had, but what about the consequences? The chatter outside the Insider-verse is not favorable to this decision. If Phil and Joe run as indies, which they are already making noises about doing, doesn't that mean the GOP could be down to 2 seats on the council if they win? The MRTC could have just Liebermaned itself.

  6. 1) By charter, the GOP has to have 4 seats on the Common Council in no matter what.
    2) One forgets, the Middlteown Republican Town Committee did not vote for Joe/Phil- they were last when the votes were tallied. This wasn't a surprise for them, which is why they brought in former GOP Chairwoman Corrinne GIll to muster up votes. Didn't work!

  7. I love in the MPress how Phil Pessina talks about having emails from WILSON and SEBBY stating, "They didn't want me on theticket and I've known since January".. So what! At least they told u to yourface unfrigginbelievable.

  8. 11:21-- The charter says that the majority can't have more than 8, with the other 4 reserved for non-majority parties. It doesn't says anything about specific parties. I think it could feasibly be 8 D/2 I/2 R.

Here is the quote: "Not more than eight (8) members of the Common Council, not more than six (6) members of the Board of Education, not more than one (1) Registrar of Voters, not more than two (2) members of the Board of Assessment Appeals. and not more than four (4) members and not more than two (2) alternate members of the Planning and Zoning Commission may be members of the same political party at any time." Taken Section 3.5, http://ecode360.com/12335056

  9. The charter does not guarantee the Republicans four seats on the council, it provides that no party may have more than 8. If Pessina and Bibisi decide to run as independents the Republicans may well only have two seats on the council.

  10. Joe and Phil have and always did have the city best intrest when they vote. Unlike the other two clowns (Linda and Deb)

  11. Excuse me but how in the heck do you claim Linda and Deb don't care about tax payers when Phil and Joe two years in a row voted to raises taxes and give themselves raises??? Tgey voted to give ION $25 grand fir a bridge work hardship and the chief a raise. Linda annld Deb were the only two to vote for LESS spending and less taxes!!!

  12. I for one am glad Angel or whom ever can get angry! Lots to get angry about and tons that needs to be called out on the carpet!

  13. Citizens don't deserve a better mayor than Drew. They voted for that phony so now take it! They like paying higher taxes. Most citizens don't understand the BOE is separate from the mayors job 100% and council has zero input on ANYTHING the schools do. Now we pay even more the superintendent. GOOD let the fools have 2 more years of the prodigal son! You deserve it Mentaltown!

  14. I'm sure Phil and Joe are giving a lot of thought to their options. If Phil has higher political aspirations (obvious), then running as an Independent will burn GOP bridges forever. He can still redeem himself by stepping up as a team player. MRTC doesn't dislike him, they dislike the job he did as Minority Leader. Time for Phil to do a gut check and accept responsibility for his failures.

  15. Phil should make a deal with the GOP t run for mayor they still have the slot open til the 21st.

  16. Phil won't run against in incumbent - particularly this incumbent since his voting record is in line with Drew's agenda. Boxed himself into a corner and is blaming everyone but himself.

  17. Phil where is the China and snow storm reports ypu asked for? Also that 10k audit done of water and sewer proving the widely know mismanagement, Phil you could have followed up on that but failed. No, I for one like seeing the Grand Old Party Becomg the Brand New Party!
