Letter to the Editor: Lesser's Support of Drivers Licenses for Illegals is Exploitation & Self-Serving

Letter to the Editor:

Once again Middletown's representative at the capital Rep. Matt Lesser acts in his own best interest instead of that of the citizens he is supposed to advocate for in his support of the bill to allow illegal immigrants to get Connecticut driver's licenses. The  latest poll from Quinnipiac University  found that citizens oppose  allowing illegal immigrants to get drivers' licenses  65% to 31%. Voters don't want licenses given to illegals.

The argument of granting drivers licenses to undocumented illegal immigrants in order to make roads safer is flawed. The facts surrounding not supporting licensing illegals have been manipulated as well. Conservatives who do not support drivers licenses for illegals are not bigots as the left wants everyone to believe; all of our ancestors are immigrants in some capacity. The difference is our ancestors had to became legal citizens before getting the benefits and rights of being a full citizen; it is that process that should be maintained.

Because of the flawed logic used to justify support of this bill, we are left to assume that Lesser voted for  undocumented illegal immigrants to be allowed to obtain drivers licenses because the influx of new registrants will help fill the state coffers. Support of licensing illegal immigrant drivers will also garner sympathy votes from supporters of big government. Social services and non profits that support, and at the same time exploit the hardship of these individuals, are also the same special interest groups who's affiliates shell out big campaign contributions to progressive's like Lesser.

Holding true to form, Lesser puts the potential earning of his re-election campaign before  the Constitutionality of the law at hand, as he did in supporting the stricter gun control laws recently passed in Connecticut that violate the 2nd Amendment.  My question is: How do the state legislators think it is okay to break Federal law?
.
The legislators are not doing what's best for, or what is  being asked for  by the taxpayers who pay their salaries. Lesser and other legislators who supported this bill are pandering to the special interest groups who fill their campaign war chests.

  1. A license and insurance will only come to those with both money and courage to announce themselves on a list of illegals.

Neither makes a driver more skilled.

If we have 54,000 illegal adults and they are here with children...
even if 20,000 of these purported illegal residents have an average number of children (2.5 per household) that tells us we are paying million$ (near a BILLION) in education costs; add more for hospital care and aid for citizen children's food, family.

    These are low estimates:
54,000 illegal immigrants adults could get licenses

20,000 Adults – making possible families (only about 35%)

    50,000 children - assuming 2.5 per family

$750 million @$15,000 per child in public education each year (most cost more for extra services such as remediation, ESL, Bi-lingual staff)
$750,000,000 to rise if we give licenses and become an even more friendly state for illegal migration.

Do I want to stop education of all children? no.
Education is the key to literacy required of a free republic.

Just saying, we should be encouraging illegal immigrants to live in another state that is friendlier. Could they find one?

  2. Am I going to be providing insurance for these people also? They will need it in order to drive.
They will also need a Social Security number to get the insurance.
So what could they possibly do with a driver's license(a legal photo I.D)and a S.S.#?
Why... they can REGISTER TO VOTE!!!
    Mission accomplished!

  3. They will drive anyways with out insurance. The try to recoup damages if your in an accident with them and your injured extensively...
its just another "hand out" by the Dems that these people can then say "The Dems helped me" and then they can get votes. No different then Obama did to get all his.... Give them free Obama phones, free this and free that. All in exchange for votes. For some it takes very little to make them happy because they have very little and dont want to work to move forward. And cant see they are being played by the D party for their votes or are they really that ignorant. Yeah its a transparent administration. Even at the State level, its seen right thru for what is actually is by those who know better.

  4. Anon #1 says: You are correct.
Fill out a form to register to vote.
Get on the list, show the license as photo ID for first time voter.

The only challenge allowed by CT law is challenge the person is not who he says he is.

No challenge allowed for - Hey, he should not be on the list.

    Thousands on the list, Done!

  6. You don't require a social security number or a driver's license to purchase car insurance.
