Tuesday, March 26th, 5:30 p.m.:  Krust, a wood fired pizza and bourbon bar, is a new addition to Middletown, located at 686 Main Street. Krust offers a wide selection of bourbon and bourbon cocktails, beer and other drink options.

Complementary wood fired pizza will be served, courtesy of Krust. At this event, we are also holding a sock drive for St. Vincent de Paul Middletown. Socks are a commonly requested item at shelters and other housing programs.

Middlesex United Way Women's Initiative to Hold ANnual Meeting & Valentine's Social

MIDDLETOWN – The Middlesex United Way Women’s Initiative is holding its Annual Meeting & Valentine’s Social at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 7 at The Village at South Farms, 645 Saybrook Road, Middletown. Anyone is welcome to attend this free event where you can connect with other women professionals and volunteers.


Featured speaker Anna Wasescha, president of Middlesex Community College, will speak about “Women in Leadership Roles: The Risks and Rewards.” Women’s Initiative chair Jean D’Aquila of D’Aquila & Vollono Law LLC share highlights of the group’s accomplishments, volunteer activities, and grants that were made in 2012. Representatives from Pretty Wings and Community Music School in Centerbrook, both of which have received grants from the Women’s Initiative, will speak about their work and how the Women’s Initiative has supported their mission.

The Middlesex United Way Women’s Initiative celebrates the power of women to bring about positive change in our community through philanthropy and volunteer service. The group provides opportunities for women of all ages and backgrounds to invest their time, talents, and treasures in ways that strengthen the lives of women and children in Middlesex County.

Some of the Women’s Initiative’s ongoing activities include a bi-monthly women’s networking breakfast; an annual free financial literacy workshop, annual drives for books, toiletries, and “gently used” purses for local programs working with women and children; and the distribution of small, one-time grants to programs that meet one or more of the group’s focus areas: early childhood development, empowering young women, and financial stability. United Way Young Leaders in Politics Panel Thursday At Wesleyan

The United Way Young Leaders' Society "Young Leaders in Politics" panel is being held Thursday May 31 2012 at the Daniels Family Commons, Usdan Center  on Wesleyan Campus.

There will be a networking reception from 5:30 to 6:15, and the panel will begin promptly at 6:15. Jeff McDonald from Wesleyan will welcome attendees, then introduce Justin Carbonella, Young Leaders' Society Chair. Justin will have some brief remarks and then introduce Jeff Stoecker, our panel moderator.  Tomorrow's panel consists of BOE member Ryan Kennedy, Treasurer Quentin Phipps, Representative Matt Lesser, and P& Z Commissioner Molly Salafia.

 The event is being held to generate some discussion about different ways to get involved in the political process, whether at the local, state, or even national level - not just by running for office, but by working on campaigns and/or policy issues.  At approximately 7:00 pm we will open up to the audience for Q & A. The event is not a debate on issues or platforms, just a way to motivate and encourage more political involvement, regardless of affiliation.

United Way Young Leaders Forum with Local Elected Officials

Join the United Way Young Leaders Society for a special evening featuring young leaders from the Greater Middletown area talking about public service, civic involvement, and the importance of young people taking part in the political process to make positive change.

Participants will discuss their own successes and challenges as young leaders and answer questions related to the issues young people face in public service. Our Moderator for the night will be Jeff Stoecker, NBC Connecticut’s Weekend News Anchor.
