Middlesex County Substance Abuse Action Council Announces Workshops to be Held at Local YMCAs for the Community to Speak About Legalizing Marijuana

(Middletown, CT) Anthony Salvatore, Board President of the Middlesex County Substance Abuse Action Council (MCSAAC) announced that workshops will be held for parents and young adults to provide testimony on the legalization of marijuana. Four workshops will be held, two at the Middlesex YMCA in Middletown and two at the Valley Shore YMCA in Westbrook. The first workshop offers participants the latest news on marijuana and its impact on youth, health, and society. In the second workshop, participants will practice giving their three-minute testimonies. Several volunteer legislators will join the second workshop, providing guidance and feedback to participants.

The workshop series for The Middlesex YMCA in Middletown will be held at the following dates and times:

Workshop 1: Wednesday, February 22, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Get the latest news about marijuana and its impact on youth, health, and society. Prepare your three-minute testimony, MCSAAC will help.

Workshop 2: Thursday, March 2, 7 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
Edit your testimony and practice speaking. One or two local legislators will be on hand to give feedback and encouragement.

The workshop series for The Valley Shore YMCA in Westbrook will be held at the following dates and times:

This year, three bills have been introduced to legalize marijuana. If any of the bills pass, marijuana will be sold in stores for recreational use.

“A new generation of kids might be growing up with both alcohol and psychotropic drugs as adult recreation. If you have an opinion about this, it’s time to get active. We encourage community members to use our workshops to help persuade legislators to see your point of view,” said Director of Middlesex County Substance Abuse Action Council Betsey Chadwick.

The workshops are free and open to the public but seating is limited. For more information contact Betsey Chadwick at MCSAAC by calling 860-347-5959 or via email at betsey@mcsaac.org
