More than 75 area residents attended an Apr. 6 Opioid Addiction Awareness & Education Forum at the Clinton Town Hall Auditorium to discuss the growing epidemic of opioid-related deaths throughout Connecticut.

The discussion, hosted by Rep. Jesse MacLachlan (center, seated) and Sen. Art Linares (standing), allowed a panel of experts to answer questions about drug addiction.

The lawmakers, who are backing legislation at the State Capitol to fight addiction, noted that the state has a toll free number to help people. Residents can call 1-800-563-4086 to be directed to a walk-in assessment center in their area where they will be evaluated. People will also receive a follow-up phone call by trained staff to determine if they have received the help they need and to problem-solve any barriers to treatment.
