Mary Fay to Run For State Comptroller

West Hartford town councilor Mary Fay today announced her candidacy for the office of State Comptroller.

Fay, a senior finance executive, has led Fortune 100 businesses including GE, Sun Life, and AIG. She has a B.S. in business/accounting and government from Skidmore College, and an MBA from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. She began her career as a cost accountant at The Hartford.

In addition to her career achievements, Fay has been involved in her community. She is in her third term on the Town Council, where she serves as Minority Leader. She was also served on the West Hartford library board, coached youth basketball, and was named a “Top Woman in Business” by Hartford Business Journal.

“I’ve been thinking about the best way to serve the people of Connecticut for some time,” said Fay. “I started in the Comptroller’s department upon graduating college, and now I’ve come full circle. Restoring integrity, tightening financial controls, increasing efficiency and improving accuracy of reporting and forecasting will be my priorities.

“The comptroller is the CFO of Connecticut, and I have a solid track record of leading finance businesses and functions. I’m prepared and ready to lead on Day One.”

Fay has been a member of the Finance, Budget, and Administration subcommittee of the West Hartford town council since she was first elected. A native of East Hartford, she has lived in West Hartford with her family since 2002.

“I’m thrilled that someone of Mary’s caliber has stepped up to run for Comptroller,” said Joe Markley, former state Senator and Republican candidate for Lieutenant Governor in 2018. “She is uniquely qualified for this critical role, and has the vision, work ethic, and energy to manage Connecticut’s finances at the highest level. Mary will be a great addition to our ticket in November.”
