The loss of Rep. Terry Backer (D-Stratford) - "The 'Soundkeeper" - is a serious loss for conservationalists, sportsmen, the legislature, and the state. Independence, common sense, goal oriented, and perservance were his norm.
In
recent years the legislature has lost two stalwarts of sportsmen's issues and
Long Island Sound; Terry Backer and Sen. George "Doc" Gunther, both
from the Stratford
area. Each received the CCS "Patriot Award'. We hope and believe
there is a legislator(s) who will take the reins in Terry's stead.
We
had contact with Terry throughout the recent legislative session and he was
alert and appeared in near complete recovery from his brain tumor
operation. His death came as a complete surprise. He will be sorely
missed. RIP.
