Happy Mother's Day Message from Mayor Dan Drew

  1. I was quite impressed with Dan Drew's poise and rationality during his interview with the irascible Bill O'Reilly. Dan gave a reasoned explanation of all the criticisms raised by O'Reilly about the university's funding of obnoxious radio programming. What's your point, Middletown Insider? Dan was not defending the content of the student radio show, just the principle involved.

  2. Dear ANON:

No way! If DREw were GOP you would label him a smut peddler and carry on with your signs about how bad he is during the election. Sort of like how you ignored O'Rourke and Masselli's huge problems.. Wake up!

  3. Dan Drew was 10 years ahead of the President of North Korea with that haircut. He is pretty relaxed on TV.

  5. To Anonymous May 12, 2013 at 10:11 p.m.--For someone like you, whom I suspect is a big Second Amendment fan, it's ironic you criticize Dan Drew, when he was a college student, to defend the First Amendment rights of students who ran the obnoxious radio program to be obnoxious if they wanted to be. That's exactly what the First Amendment is designed to do: allow people freely to express their views, no matter how much the audience is offended or dislikes the message. On the O'Reilly interview segment, Dan never once defended the content of the radio show, merely the students' right to put out whatever content they wanted to broadcast. That's pretty basic First Amendment stuff. You're dense if you can't see the distinction.

  7. To Anonymous May 14, 2013 at 11:09 a.m. Your Comment is exactly why we have a First Amendment guarantee of freedom of speech. Even if somebody's brand of humor doesn't meet your totalitarian sensitivities, it's still protected by the First Amendment. You may not find this radio station's brand of humor interesting, appropriate, or educational, but some do. Such ventures are a good use of UConn funds. Far better that the students blow off steam in silly, juvenile humor than drinking and drugging their way through the weekends. Anyway, you're so close-minded, it's a good thing you're neither a professor nor administrator at the university. You would, however, be well-qualified to serve on a Soviet or Sino-Soviet Censorship Committee for the Preservation of Socialist Realist Art and Culture. You also seem to forget you once were young and foolish; now you're simply old, up tight, and intolerant. At least Dan Drew was not foolish when he was at UConn, based on his articulate and sober defense of the First Amendment right of these students to do this radio show.

  8. Wow.So this video was posted and immediately 3 comments in defense of by the same anonymous person. I don't care about this video one way or another. Its astonishing how this mayor can do no wrong in many peoples eyes and how fierce people become with an criticism.

  9. Anonymous May 14, 2013 7:52 p.m. You just don't get it, do you? The YouTube video has nothing to do with Dan Drew's performance as mayor. It was him speaking while an undergraduate in college. Not only did he say nothing wrong in the video, he articulately defended the First Amendment principles embodied in the U.S. Constitution. What don't you get about that? I think you're so inflexibly and unreflectively opposed to Dan Drew that you'll find something wrong in everything he ever did or now does, regardless of the merits. Sad....and intellectually shallow.
