A Poem...

“First they came…” is a famous statement and provocative poem attributed to pastor Martin Niemöller (1892–1984) about the sloth of German intellectuals following the Nazis' rise to power and the subsequent purging of their chosen targets, group after group.
I’ve employed artistic license with this famous poem making it more contemporary by applying recent developments in Connecticut and in America.
First they came for the Catholics,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Catholic.
Then they came for the Tea Party Patriots,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Tea Party Patriot.
Then they came for the Gun Owners,
and I didn't speak out because I wasn't a Gun Owner.
Then they came for Me,
and there was no one left to speak for Me.
