From the Desk of Patrick J. Dilger, Director of Public Affairs SCSU:
The University is deeply saddened
to report that several of the teachers and administrators killed during
Friday's shootings at Sandy Hook
Elementary School in Newtown had ties to Southern.
Principal Dawn Lafferty Hochsprung earned a master's degree in special
education in 1997, and a sixth-year certificate in educational
leadership from Southern in 1998. School psychologist Mary Sherlach and
teacher Anna Marie Murphy took graduate-level classes
during the late 80s and early 90s, and teacher Victoria Soto was
currently taking classes toward a master's degree in special education.
Our community's thoughts and prayers are with these individuals and all who died or lost a loved one during this tragedy.
