At approx. 10 AM this morning, an as yet unidentified man crashed his car into the emergency room entrance at Middlesex Hospital. In the process, he set himself on fire.  Whether or not that was deliberate, (setting himself on fire), is as yet, unclear.

Mayor Dan Drew tweeted the following: "We will be holding a press conference at noon regarding the emergency at Middlesex Hospital. At this time we don't believe there is any threat to the community and we believe this to be an isolated incident."

Police and fire officials were immediately called to the scene, along with the bomb squad.  BATF officials are reportedly involved in the investigation.  As of this writing, no other injuries were reported. The condition of the attacker is not yet known, nor is a motive.

The Chevrolet involved is believed to have an automatic transmission.  Wesleyan students are expected to rally at city hall, later today, calling for a ban on automatic transmissions.

Area streets were closed off as a precaution.
