DACA and Christianity

An opinion by Phyllis Renee' Arpin-Nelson

So many Christian friends are completely onboard with the illegal DACA. I understand. They are focused on Jesus commands to take care of the least of these among us which we must do and have been doing.

They do not seem to realize that when a government/President is allowed to flout some of the law, it is just a matter of time before the government/President with different faces and ideologies decides to flout the rest of the law or pick and choose other laws they like or don't like.

We are already dangerously close to a number of our Constitutional rights not only being infringed upon, but completely wiped away. This will include the right to practice our religion.
The founders made us a nation of laws not of men for obvious reasons. This Constitutional Republic has survived until now, for this reason. The lack of proper civics education over the last 40 years has left we the people unprotected and vulnerable.

The "orange cheeto" as some refer to him as, did what was required. He returned the DACA to Congress in order for them to do what needs to be done to make it right. It was cruel of the last President to give such false hope to so many. He flimflammed them knowing that the piper would have to be paid at some point. Even the leadership of his own party recognizes this. If Congress does it's job, they have ways to do the most good for the most people and still be within our law. Will they do the heavy lifting the founders expected them to do? I hope so.

Too bad our citizenry is so uneducated in how a Constitutional Republic is supposed to work. They are ignorant of how our three branches of government work in order to protect the balance of power. We had eight years of the President disregarding how this beautiful system was to work and now we are up to our eyeballs in chaos. The media is thrilled.
