Middletown Republican Candidate Slate 2015

MRTC Press release:  The Middletown Republican Town Committee is proud to announce our candidates for municipal office for the 2015 Election.
We have a great slate that includes candidates with significant experience in city government and new candidates who will have fresh ideas.

Sandra Russo-Driska will lead our slate as candidate for Mayor.  She is an incumbent Common Council member, a business-woman in Middletown, and long-time town clerk for the City of Middletown.  She has shown her leadership and management abilities in all of her endeavors.  Those skills, and her knowledge of city government and operations will make her a great Mayor for Middletown.

Marco Iacoviello to Mayor Drew: 'Is this Political?" - The Cable Advisory Board Drama Continues!!!

Dear Mayor Drew,

      It has come to my attention that you have re-appointed Ms. Santangelo and Mr. Russo to the Northern Middlesex County Cable Advisory Council.  
I would like to invite you to the next meeting of the Council on Monday, July 20th at7:00pm in Council Chambers so that the Council can address you and ask 
for your reasoning behind your decision to re-appoint two members who have been delinquent in attending meetings over the past three years.    
 We would like to get the reasoning behind your decision.  Is this something “political”?.  Keeping in mind that the Cable Advisory Council is a non-partisan
Council whose job it is to look out for the welfare of the Middlesex County community and not apolitical council, we would be very disappointed to find out 
that you based your decision on “friendship and politics” and for not “the good of the community”.  We hope to see you at the meeting on Monday.  If you miss 
the meeting, I will make a recommendation to the Council that we make a special attendance at your next Council meeting to try and address the issue

CORRECTION AND APOLOGY:

My previous post claiming that ALL Republican electors have a say in endorsing the candidates for the upcoming municipal election is INCORRECT!

That is not the case; only Town Committee members are allowed to participate in the endorsement of candidates. I got this confused with the fact that all Republican electors are eligible to participate in the nomination and election of Town Committee members.

My sincere apology for this error and any confusion or panic it may have caused.

That being said, I do encourage all the city's Republican electors to attend the meeting on the 27th, and all other Town Committee meetings. Most meetings are held on the last Monday of the month at 7:00 P.M., in the Council Chamber at the Municipal Building at 245 deKoven Drive.

Your participation and input are needed in order to have a vibrant conservative party not only in Middletown, but in Connecticut.

Cable Board Member's Response to Mayor's Re-appointments to Cable Advisory Board

I was hoping that the Mayor would act in a logical manner to the letter that I sent him regarding the delinquency of two Middletown representatives on the Northern Middlesex Count Cable Advisory Council.....One representative has missed 9 out of 14 meetings in the past 3 years and one has missed 14 of 15 meetings in the past 3 years. My request was for the Mayor to appoint some representatives with a pulse. He re-appointed them for another term. Can someone who sees him on a daily basis, ask him why he would DISRESPET the Council in such a manner?? Maybe he can show up at the next meeting on 7/20/2015 at 7:00 to answer some questions.....COUNCIL Chambers. .I'm also curious to see if his delinquent representatives will show up....Delinquent representative.....you know who you are. Maybe you can respond to this post so that the rest of Middletown knows who you are

Mayor Appoints “Low Hanging Fruit”
to NMCCAC

    Mayor Drew appoints Lisa Santangelo and Dan Russo AGAIN to the
Northern Middlesex County Cable Advisory Council despite the
recommendations of the Council members.  Ms. Santangelo and Mr. Russo
have a greater than 50% missing attendance record over the past 3
years.  Ms. Santangelo has missed 9 out of 15 meetings and Mr. Russo has
been absent for 14 out of 15 meetings.  Mayor Drew is helping his friends
stay in positions that they obviously don’t want most likely because of their political affiliation
with the Democratic party and the NMCCAC is a non-partisan Council that is in
need of people who  could help us fulfill our obligations to the community.

Let’s ask Mayor Drew why he keeps these people in positions that they clearly have
no interest in.

Drew to Re-appoint Cable Advisory Members Santangelo and Russo- members that never show up for meetings!


Note: Mayor Daniel T. Drew aka The Boy King refuses to follow city charter and appoint Republican Members to the Inland Wetlands Commission.  Recently Marco Iacoviello, a long time member of the Northern Middlesex Country Cable Advisory Aboard wrote Mayor Drew the following letter about members Dan Russo and Lisa Santangelo, whose attendance at meetings is minimal at best. (see graph)  Drew in response to the letter is re-appointing both Democrat members on Monday night at the city's council meeting.  Great job Mayor !!


Dear City Representative,

         The Secretary of the Northern Middlesex County Cable Advisory Council has been looking at the attendance
records of the Council for the last few years and has noticed that your appointed officials are listed as “low hanging fruit” (photo below).   Their attendance record leaves much to be desired.  The attached chart shows that your appointed officials have been extremely delinquent in fulfilling their duties as members of the Northern Middlesex County Cable Advisory Council.  Missed meetings over the past 3 years has been greater than 50%.

          It is our recommendation that you take the time to reconsider their reappointment to the council when renewals come due.  It is the goal of the Council to offer the best we can to the community and we would like to acquire some members who will uphold the standards that we live by.

On the Separation of Church and State

The problem with the "separationists" beliefs about the "separation of church and state" issue, is that they don't understand what the Constitution says or means, or the historical influences that helped to form it. The 1st Amendment reads, "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof".   I don't know that that has happened anywhere in this country. Art. 6 of the US Constitution provides that there shall be no religious test as a requirement to hold public office. These are the only mentions in the Constitution regarding religion, and neither to my knowledge have been violated.

The Declaration of Independence invokes God in its opening paragraph as the authority upon which the colonist draw the right to seceded from Great Britain, "to assume among the powers of the earth, the separate and equal station to which the Laws of Nature and of Nature's God entitle them . . .". And in the final paragraph, God again is called upon, this time with a declaration of faith; "And for the support of this Declaration, with a firm reliance on the protection of divine Providence, we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes and our sacred Honor."

The point of this is that God is not excluded from the public forum by the Constitution. To the contrary, if you read the writings of the authors and signers of it, (and of the Declaration of Independence) you will see that they often invoked the name of God in their writing, even in the writings surrounding their official duties. It is clear that the Founders viewed the Natural Law, the laws of Nature and Nature's God, as the basis for the liberties and laws of Man.

The majority of the Founders understood Nature's God to be the Judea/Christian god. And today, a majority of Americans still recognize that same god. We are, and have been, a Judea/Christian nation, one that tolerates the religious liberties of others; thankfully so and documented so. The second paragraph of the Declaration contains one of the most recognized assertions of the Founder's belief in God and the laws of God. It declares that mankind was Created and Created equally (by God) and the rights of Man come from the Creator and are not subject to the whims of the powerful.

What are our rights and where do they come from? 

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness."

What then, is the purpose of government?

". . . to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed . . ."   

The open acknowledgement of God by our government doth not a theocracy make.
