City of New York, October 3, 1789 Now therefore I do recommend and assign Thursday the 26th day of November next to be devoted by the People of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being, who is the beneficent Author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be. That we may then all unite in rendering unto him our sincere and humble thanks, for his kind care and protection of the People of this country previous to their becoming a Nation, for the signal and manifold mercies, and the favorable interpositions of his providence, which we experienced in the course and conclusion of the late war, for the great degree of tranquility, union, and plenty, which we have since enjoyed, for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national One now lately instituted, for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge and in general for all the great and various favors which he hath been pleased to confer upon us. And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations and beseech him to pardon our national and other transgressions, to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually, to render our national government a blessing to all the People, by constantly being a government of wise, just and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed, to protect and guide all Sovereigns and Nations (especially such as have shown kindness unto us) and to bless them with good government, peace, and concord. To promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the encrease of science among them and Us, and generally to grant unto all Mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as he alone knows to be best. |

DeLauro: The Magic of Obamacare
Below is a commentary on the Affordable Care Act written by Connecticut Senator Rosa DeLauro published in the Hartford Courant on 11/25. We asked hocus pocus lady Sybill Trelawney wizard from Harry Potter to weigh in.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Congresswoman Rosa Delauro (RD): Ever since we passed comprehensive health insurance reform three
years ago, there has been a lot of misinformation and partisan smoke
surrounding the Affordable Care Act.
Sybill Trelawney (ST): POOF! Keep your eye on right hand not my left...
RD: Seniors in my district have been told that the law will negatively impact them in all kinds of ways — that they will need to apply for an “Obamacare” card to obtain their Medicare, that their benefits will be cut, or that older people will no longer get cancer care. Because these and other falsehoods have become so prevalent, I want to clear the air and dispel the myths that surround this historic and transformative law.
ST: Death panels. Ok not quite death panels exactly.. my Inner Eye says... "Death Eaters"
RD: In fact, the Affordable Care Act includes significant benefits for Medicare and Medicare beneficiaries. Older and disabled people on Medicare enjoy these benefits without doing anything at all in the new state insurance marketplaces, such as Access Health CT, or the federal exchange at healthcare.gov. These important reforms and improvements to Medicare are already in place because of the Affordable Care Act.
First, because of the health reform law, people with Medicare can get cheaper prescription drugs, and the “donut hole” in drug coverage is closing. Already, more than 7.1 million seniors in the donut hole have saved $8.3 billion on prescription drugs. And by 2020, the donut hole will be closed for good, and older and disabled people will have saved an average of over $18,000 on prescription drugs.
ST: Hmmmm donuts....older disabled will save $18,000 a piece you say, but who pays this cost? Abra ca dabra... Young healthy blooded muggles! Ok, we all love our grandparents, but how is this gonna work and stay solvent... I'd rather put my money on quidditch being recognized as Olympic sport..
RD: Also, before the Affordable Care Act, key life-saving preventive services, like colonoscopies and mammograms, could have co-pays as high as $160. Now, thanks to the new law, Medicare provides these services free of charge. Last year, 34.1 million Medicare beneficiaries took advantage of these now free preventive services. Medicare also now provides Annual Wellness Visits without charge, and more than 4.4 million people on Medicare have already benefited from this.
ST: If you take the train from Meriden to New Haven you can get a colonoscopy for free! Right on the train! Some nice man last week he just.. well never mind. A co-pay of $160 for a procedure that costs thousands that I may only need once a year at most...
Sorry Rosa, but nothing is “free”. SOMEBODY has to pay for all this stuff. AND that somebody is US, the taxpayers...
RD: As a cancer survivor whose ovarian cancer was caught in Stage 1 during an unrelated medical visit, I can tell you firsthand: preventive and wellness care saves lives.
ST: Yes, duh preventitive services save lives.Lemme ask you, did this cancer get caught at a non-profit clinic crowded with folks waiting inline for the common cold, or a fancy upscale private doctors office where the doctor actually had time to sit down and talk with you?
RD: The Affordable Care Act is also providing additional savings for all people with Medicare, leading to stable and lower premiums and lower deductibles. Medicare Part B premiums have either stayed or decreased over the past three years.
ST: Here comes the spell !!!! Oooh wait you aren't going to tell us what the additional savings are?
RD: The average premium for Medicare Advantage enrollees this year is actually 10 percent lower than 2010. And the health care law works to strengthen Medicare in other ways.
It extends the solvency of the Trust Fund by nearly a decade. It improves subsidies for low-income Medicare beneficiaries. And it provides new tools to crack down on waste and fraud — to make Medicare more efficient without reducing benefits.
ST: No kidding! And DeLauro’s typical attempt to make it seem like “everybody is getting everything their hearts desire absolutely free” is one of the most egregious examples of this kind of partisan subterfuge. Here’s what Rosa doesn’t want YOU the taxpayer to know: Medicare, Medicaid, and Social Security currently soak up about 44 percent of the federal budget. All three programs are growing faster than inflation, and—when joined with $1.7 trillion in new Obamacare spending—will drain about 18.5 percent of the nation’s total economic output by mid-century. This means that all other government programs—national defense, veterans’ health care, transportation, federal law enforcement, etc.—ALL will have to be financed with borrowed money.
RD: So the Affordable Care Act is already making a difference, and once it is fully implemented it will be life-changing for millions of families.
ST: CAN WE STILL GET FREE DIAPERS ROSA? DIAPERS?! Its not even fully implemented and you claim it is making a difference!I wanna J.K Rolf-up my lunch Rosa!
RD: I also want you to know about one related problem that has nothing to do with the Affordable Care Act.Some Connecticut seniors have recently learned that their private Medicare plan, UnitedHealth Care, is dropping many doctors and other health providers from its network. This shameful decision has nothing to do with the Affordable Care Act. Rather, UnitedHealth Care is putting their profits ahead of the health interests of their enrollees.
ST: Shift that blame girl! Shift it! My crystal ball says a lot more are going to be dropping doctors...I love how Rosa tries to be all Oprah like, like she is sharing a secret just with us, share on Rosa...
RD: Our entire Congressional delegation has demanded answers from UnitedHealth on this arbitrary and reckless decision, and will continue to seek out answers until the company stops being evasive.
ST: They want to make money Rosa! Just like you you 1%er!! You are one of the richest in congress! Listen, we may both dress like we are woodland knomes riding the same broom, but we are NOT alike. Its not being evasive, its being about the bottom line. What about the and you can keep your doctor razzle dazzle?
RD: As we sort out the UnitedHealth Care situation, rest assured that the Affordable Care Act is helping to ensure that Medicare provides better and less expensive coverage for older and disabled people.
ST: Better AND Less expensive? All for $19.95 you say?! That's eye of newt and wing of bat-shi* impossible!
RD: This law builds on the bedrock achievements of Medicare and Social Security to provide more security for the middle-class and a better, healthier quality of life for our entire community.
ST: Oh yeah cause Social Security isn't the biggest ponzi scheme ever invented and its going to last forever! Now who is a work of fiction now? You are preoccupied, my dear. My Inner Eye sees past your brave face to the troubled soul within. And I regret to say that your worries are not baseless. I see difficult times ahead for you, alas... most difficult... I fear the thing you dread will indeed come to pass... and perhaps sooner than you think...
RD: And it makes a number of important, long-overdue reforms that most people just take as common sense, like banning insurance companies from denying coverage or benefits to those with preexisting conditions, eliminating annual caps, mandating more transparency, and ensuring that women are not charged more than men for the same health coverage.
ST: Can I bundle with my car insurance? Oh '"transparency" now that is a catchy little phrase. No men and women are charged the same per age despite the fact that they do not give birth, they pay like they do. And so are women past menopause. And there are no incentives for not smoking or staying healthy. That's right everybody light up!
RD: The Affordable Care Act is good for Medicare and good for families. I am very proud to have fought to make it law, and I look forward to its full implementation.
DeLauro, a Democrat, represents Connecticut’s third congressional district in the U.S. House of Representatives.
ST: Rosa DeLauro: burying the next generation in debt. But, hey muggles! If you don’t mind having a significantly lower standard of living andhigh unemployment for decades to come, just keep voting for Rosa and her cronycohorts. By the time the SHTF, Rosa will have long since retired on broom to a tropical paradise far from the land of the working stiffs, with her massive wealth—and it will be too late for YOU to undo the mess she’ll have left behind.Ok Rosa- if its so great, why don't you enroll?
OH WAIT, Congress is exempt! Gee, thanks.

GREETINGS PATRIOTS

GREETINGS PATRIOTS
JOHN
MCKINNEY MUST GO This week got off with a successful rally in
Southport.
Not many donors
attended a John McKinney fundraiser at a popular restaurant.
Several new
activists including Jack from Bethlehem, whose natural talent was amazing.
Several videos
may be found attached to this view of Jack describing why he was there in the
dark so far from his cozy home 40 miles away.
There are two
men whom must never be elected governor. First is Governor Dannel Malloy because
we've seen what damage he can inflict. Second is John McKinney, who can never be
trusted again to lead.
–----------------------------- ----------------
GETTYSBURG ADDRESS Tuesday was the 150th
anniversary of Lincoln's Gettysburg address. The New Haven Museum commemorated
the date by hosting an enthusiastic history professor and an amazing Lincoln
re-enactor. We videoed the entire presentation. Questions from the 100 people in
attendance were particularly of interest. There are seven clips in all. You may
view them all by following this link.

TEA
PARTY CHALLENGES MALLOY TO DEBATE Bob MacGuffie, the spokesman for the
Ct Tea Party reacted to the Governor's attack on our Tea Party Patriots. You can
see what led up to the challenge, and then read an article in the Hartford
Courant blog.
And acting on a
request from Tom Dudchik of the Capitol Report, we traveled to Fairfield to
record MacGuffie's video challenge. Dudchik said he intends to make a news story
of this challenge and will feature it on his Sunday morning TV show.
–----------------------------- ---------------------------
SHAWN IN
BRISTOL Last Tuesday, Nov. 12, we backed up Bristol anti-Agenda 21
activist Shawn Ruest, in his attempt to awaken his city in time to forestall a
big mistake.
We all should
become aware of any regional unelected governmental entities that threaten our
way of life. If you don't pay attention you might just be left with a big bill
to try to pay off. We should have at least one Shawn in each CT town.
–----------------------------- ---
COMMON
CORE The next day, Wednesday Nov. 13 we attended the regular Plymouth
Board of Education meeting. At that meeting were possibly the best team of
Common Core fighters ever assembled at a CT small town BOE meeting. It was
historic to watch our friends from Plymouth and other towns work together to
help educate the BOE and others at the meeting. If you would like these patriots
to help you reject the Common Core State Standards in your town, contact us.
–----------------------------- ---------------------
WALLINGFORD Be advised that there will be a state wide
meeting on Common Core this Saturday, Nov. 23 from 1-4 PM at the Wallingford
Parks and Rec. Building at 6 Fairfield Blvd. And please join the STOP Common
Core Face Book group to keep constantly informed. Almost 700 members and growing
fast.
–----------------------------- ---------
SAVE OUR
STATE since the spring we've watched a group of patriots form a
political action group in the Quiet Corner. After seven months the group has
grown to exceed the activity of local Republican Town
committees. They manned stations at the polling places in the 29th
state senate district on Election Day. They used issues to attract attention,
educate and persuade the voters. Have you ever seen the CT GOP do
that?
Led by Duffy Dauphinais of
Killingly, their goal is to supply enough volunteers to topple Donald Williams
from the State Senate. They are still searching for the best candidate to oppose
Williams, and when they find that person they will have a ready-made campaign
infrastructure ready to roll. If you would like to join the District 29 chapter
of Save Our State you can follow Duffy's prompting in this video. And you can
start your own group anywhere, any time. And we will help.
–----------------------------- ---
MARCH
AGAINST MAIN STREAM MEDIA CT We stayed in the Quiet Corner Friday
night. First thing on Saturday morning we headed westward to attend our first
ever March Against Main Stream Media CT.
A varied group
of patriots gathered in front of the Hartford Courant Building at 1 PM.
Joe Visconti and Dani McEvoy
hosted the event which lasted over two hours. The weather was perfect. You can
view the highlights by linking from this video interview.

ELIZABETH ESTY What's a Democrat to do these days? The
Congressman is getting bashed from the right and the left. 2014 is going to be
so much fun to watch. But so much more fun to
participate. Join up now and be a hero.
–----------------------------- -----------------------------
We often travel
the state to attend and record pertinent events and rallies. Along the way we
seek out welcome signs in every town. Our goal is to collect an image in all 169
towns and cities by April 4, 2014. To make things clearer, here's an example of
our recent work. Today we picked up five more towns. We're almost half way to
our goal.
If you like
beautiful music you will enjoy this. http://youtu.be/H8ZIT38KYL0

inferiors." - Plato
Palin Smith
ps. Ray Hackett, a veteran reporter/op ed writer for the
Norwich Bulletin admitted what we knew all along. The recent election results
indicate that Democrats are in trouble in CT. If only the CT GOP doesn't screw
up again!!

Guestblog: JFK's Last Stand by John Kilian
Below is a essay written by local author John Kilian of Middletown. Kilian ran on the Realistic Balance party for Mayor this most recent election cycle. All opinions of guest bloggers are the
sole responsibility of the author and do not necessarily reflect the
views of the Insider staff.
---------------------------------------------------------
JFK's last stand
The imbalance of reporting supporting the theory that Oswald acted a a lone mad man seems contrary to an objective analysis of the facts known widely today that were not at the time of the Warren Commission's investigation. There seems to be a movement afoot to convince people that a proper investigation resulted in a sound conclusion on the matter of JFK's assassination. The concealment of information vital to knowing what happened that day continues with this latest iteration of fealty to a flawed case.
The Zapruder file, shown to the public for the first time in a 1969 courtroom, provides ample evidence that, not only did the fatal shot come from someone other than Oswald, but that powerful people kept it out of public view for years after the crime occurred. In 1975 the film was shown on national television for the first time, fostering a groundswell that led Congress to convene the Church Committee. Congress discovered that the CIA withheld from investigators for the FBI and CIA on the case for the Warren Commission information these investigators testified they both requested, and which, had their requests been fulfilled, would have led them to expand their efforts far from the narrow focus on Oswald as the lone operator.
Subsequent acts of Congress in later administrations have sequestered from public view information in the government's custody, preventing its release until after the time when actors contemporary to the assassination will have passed on. In the interim, we seem to be in a period when old falsehoods are minted anew, as if the consciousness of a nation stripped of its democratically elected leader long ago can be laid to rest, as well.
This is no longer a story about the murder of a man fifty years dead. It is yet another chapter in our nation's struggle to increase our devotion to the cause our honored dead gave their full measure of devotion, that our nation be governed of, by, and for its people. So long as the truth is sought, this dream will not perish from the earth, and these dead shall not have died in vain.

Short Stories By The Insider
Preface: After Common Council elect Carl Chisem refuses to relinquish his seat on Planning & Zoning at this week's meeting, the meeting adjourns after only 20 minutes. A power play by veteran Democrats stop a bi-partisan slate of officers lead by top
vote-getter Stephen Devoto (D) as chair, or a simple "misunderstanding"?
Read the full scoop from Cassandra Day Editor of the Patch here:
Not even a week into the new administration and there is a story
line already.
Behind closed doors the wheels started turning. The
democrats where sweating and nervous about what the next step will be and who
will be chairman of the planning and zoning commission. Quick let’s call on our senior advisers (no
need to mention names) and caucus they will come to the rescue. We can’t let
Steve Devoto win the chairman position and we definitely can let Beth Emery be
appointed as a seated commissioner. They are to smart and we will never get
anything done. The republicans are just a bunch of dopes; we don’t have to
worry about them. We have to make sure that Richard Pelletier is chairman he
does what he’s told. Steve and Beth will be a torn in the butt. What do we say
to Larry?
SO LETS SEND CARL CHISEM IN THERE! I was doing my duty he
said. Yeah for his party. (This was no mistake)
It worked. The meeting was a debacle.
WILL MIDDLETOWN WAKE UP!
TO BE CONTINUED!

Carpino looks into Deadly Crashes in Portland, Middletown Reps ZZZZZZZ....
Rep. Carpino, used to represent part of Middletown. |
Thank you Ms. Carpino for doing YOUR JOB! We wish you still had Middletown in your district! Maybe next time you are at the capital you can give Ol' Joe and Matty a sharp elbow to the side to wake them up from their comas regarding the roadways in Middletown.
Highway Routes 17 and 9 running through Middletown are a disaster, ranking number 1 as the most dangerous highways in the state.
In a recent report by the American Society of Civil Engineers, Connecticut & Illinois tied for the worst roads in the nation.
Rep. Pappa Joe, Middletown. Head of Highway Committee has deadliest stretch in his own town! WTF. |
25+ year veteran Rep. Joe Serra (D), who lives in and represents Middletown, is head of the Highways and Transportation Committee.
Serra also runs CASHO - aka Connecticut Association of Street & Highways Officials, Inc. a "non profit" that oversees the conditions on CT's roadways. Despite this, Middletown can boast that is has the No. 1 most deadly section of highway in the state! According to Department of Transportation records, while it has a somewhat scenic view of the river, the on ramp where Route 17 merges with Route 9 has been the site of more accidents than anywhere else in the state.
Is an increase in patronage to businesses downtown worth the tragedies that have resulted from traffic lights put in place to direct people to Main Street? With new developments on the horizon, what will the new traffic patterns needed to be to satisfy developers look like? What have we learned and what can we do to make this stretch of road safer now that there may be new opportunities?
The Hartford Courant published an article about the CT Department of Transportation's conclusion that this stretch in Middletown is the most dangerous stretch of roadway in the state. Read the article here. In the Courant's article, manager of Amato's on Main Street Diane Gervais describes the delicate relationship between Route 9 Traffic and Main Street patronage, she is said: "Our customers need access to Route 9, and we need access to our customers from Route 9."
PLEASE WAKE UP Rep. Serra and Rep. Lesser! - Rep. Serra - maybe next time you are at CASHO or a highway meeting you might pipe up about the how many fatal accidents are happening in your own back yard? We are waiting?!

City Elected Officials Sworn in at Biennial Meeting of the City of Middletown
The Mayor and Common Council |
The Mayor declined to thank Councilwoman Linda Salafia, a republican, who did not win re-election. Mayor Drew also thanked Eli Canon's Owner Phil Ouelette for dealing with limited parking when the construction of the Community Health Center next door was beginning, an initiative that happened before Mayor Drew was even on Common Council. Retired Town Clerk Sandra Russo-Driska took her oath of office from Mayor Drew who was accompanied by Linda Bettencourt the new Town Clerk who had been deputy clerk to Russo-Driska during her tenure. Drew, a democrat was cross endorsed by the Working Families party along side Phil Pessina and Carl Chisem. Pessina, Drew and Chisem actively campaigned together; Working Families sponsored a fundraiser and sending out a mailer slamming candidate for Council Seb Giuliano. Chisem was elected to common council as a Democrat. In his speech, Mayor Drew also called for bi-partisan ship and claimed the economy is doing extremely well. Mayor Drew gave flowers to his mother and wife during his speech.

Letter to the Editor: Salafia Weighs in on City Overtime
Below is a letter to the editor published as a courtesy to readers; all opinions expressed are
that of the author and not necessarily that of the Insider staff.
--------------------------------------------------------------
In the Middletown Press is an article about the high amount of
overtime paid over the last 3 years. I've several comments about the
article and statements made in it. First of all for as long as I can
remember, overtime has been an issue for the City; the mantra has been
"we need to control our overtime costs." The Mayor is quoted as now
requiring the Directors to control overtime costs; news flash - not new,
the Directors have always been cognizant of overtime costs and
responsible for their budgets. The article states that we've a new
Chief Management Analyst; I would like to know who this new employee is?
when hired? job description? What department?
Also, the article states that of the three years, 2012
was the lowest. However, not mentioned is the change in scheduling that
was supposed to provide better coverage and to lower overtime. Is that
a factor or not?
Also, the article states that they are adding 5 new
employees from a grant. Has this grant actually been accepted? The City
will have to absorb the cost of these employees after the grant
expires; has this cost been compared to the cost of overtime?
We've had a couple of really difficult years with
storms and have been lucky to have some of our costs reimbursed by
FEMA. Also, we've learned through experience that having a fully
staffed department, Central Communications is a prime example, that
overtime costs go down.
But from what I'm reading, looks like not much has changed: overtime is still a problem and nothing has changed.
Linda Salafia, Middletown
Salafia (R) is a former Common Councilmember, retired city employee having served as Payroll Supervisor, and former vice president of AFSCME Local 466 Municipal employee union for the City of Middletown

Realistic Balance Mayoral Candidate Kilian to Donate Campaign War chest
Below is a letter received from Realistic Balance mayoral candidate John Kilian. Kilian lost to incumbent Mayor Dan Drew (D), but received 16% of the total votes cast for mayor; a precedent for a third party challenger in Middletown. Mayor Drew raised $93,000 in contributions for re-election campaign. Kilian says he will be donating 100% of his raised funds as he spent no money for his bid for mayor.
-------------------------------------------------
Since the campaign ended, people have been lining up to solicit me for my candidate committee surplus. After due diligence I am going to direct my treasurer to disburse the entire kit and caboodle left in the Citizens for Kilian account to The Buttonwood Tree Performing Arts and Cultural Center. They are a local institution that plays an important role in our community, and they are in need of financial support from the community.
As far as what will become of the bond I posted when I sued the City, that will become available before Thanksgiving, and has been reserved for what will likely be a very large bar bill in Newtown the day after.
Sincerely,
John Kilian

Short Stories By the Insider
For some, having a 'D' before your name in Middletown is a beautiful
thing. In Middletown to be part of this selective group of
democrats in city hall means you are well protected. The rest run scared. Why?
You know, I wish we really knew the answer. Is it a power thing?
Is it an ego trip? Is it for security? Is it for more money? Is it for all mentioned
and more? Who really knows?
When you walk through city hall it's well-acted. Watch out
what you say he or she might get mad! Shhhh! Quiet! Someone may be listening. Oh my God, did
you hear this and that? Did you know
this one is in bed with that one or that one got taken care of? Guess who’s running
for Mayor or council and so on. The drama in Middletown, CT would be a bestselling
novel or a best rated mini-series. Who knew that this mini-series could have ran as long as
the soap General Hospital (we could use Middlesex Hospital). Maybe that’s why
we have to keep the democrats in power, so the story never ends. God forbid a Republican
or any 3rd party gets a foot in the door - it throws the whole story
line off. Everything only runs smoothly if the democrats are in charge. Shhhh...
Both state and national democrats say you can always count
on Middletown. They don’t know how to change things in that town. We have
it made there. They say Middletown is a well oiled machine. The citizens of Middletown
believe everything they are told. Even that the democrats lowered their taxes,
when they in fact pay more every year. They believe they are financialy sound but they're
really not. After everyone is sworn in - the saga will continue. I hear that the
next 2 years are going to be the climax of this drama. STAY TUNED!
